- He often signed his name "Stephen A. Douglas Bishop" and he may sometimes
have spelled his name "Steven".
- born July 8, 1854 in Bloomington, IL
or possibly 1868 in Avon, Fulton County, IL
- married November 30, 1889 in Burlington, IA
to Amanda BEELER MCKEEHAN BISHOP CHAPMAN. (Photos of Amanda and Stephen)
- Amanda and Stephen had three children: George Leslie Arnold BISHOP,
David Edson BISHOP, and Bessie Juanita Ladell BISHOP.
- He supposedly was a salesman for the Singer Sewing Machine Company
Other questionable information:
I think that his parents were James BISHOP and Charlotte ARNOLD.
James BISHOP, born about 1820, possibly in Canada.
Charlotte ARNOLD born about 1825, possibly in Ohio. She married James
BISHOP about 1845, possibly in Stark County Illinois.
As of 1860, James BISHOP and Charlotte ARNOLD lived in Avon, Fulton
County, Illinois and they had six children: Ira(?), Sylva(?), John, Sarah,
Welcome, and Rufus. James BISHOP listed his occupation as carpenter
in the 1860 census.
