I've received quite a bit of email asking me how I managed to get a backstage pass for the "Weird Al" Yankovic concert at Peoria on August 17, 1996. In order to answer that question, I decided to put this up so it wouldn't seem so mysterious. Basically, I got the passes through sheer luck. Back in 1996, my family went to several Al concerts on his summer tour. At a concert a few days before the concert on the 17th, we talked to Bermuda after the show, and mentioned that we'd be going to the concert in Peoria in two days. It happened that he had a few spare passes for that concert. Because we had been to several concerts previous to that one, and had talked to Bermuda several times, he was gracious enough to give them to us. It's something that has not happened since, and is truly a matter of us having been in the right place at the right time. There really is no easy way to get passes. All I can suggest is keep going to the concerts, and stick around afterwards. The members of the band are great guys, and will almost always come out after a little bit to meet the fans. Sometimes, if there's enough time before the band has to leave, people without passes will be allowed to meet Al himself. (He usually remains backstage with those people who have passes.) That was how I met him in the picture on the left on my main page. I can't guarantee you'll be able to get backstage, but with a little luck, it can happen to you, too. Even if you don't get a pass, you will most likely still get to meet Bermuda, who's one of the nicest guys you could want to talk to, and possibly a few other of the band members.
