2009 was the year of Lunacy and the final year for the last of our founding members. It was a special year because the experience that our team had acquired in the previous two years lead to a magnificent improvement in our team’s management and technical abilities. The first week of build season was much more organized than it had been before and much more popular. After initial brainstorming the team split into subteams to learn about what they were most interested in. The different sub teams worked on rough proof of concepts of prototypes or were taught by alumni that had returned for the first week of build season. Our team also managed to acquire a grant to have our very own CNC machine installed in our workshop. As a result our team managed to construct a very complicated swerve drive base and write the code to control it as well as design a manipulator that was actually able to do what it was supposed to, unlike the previous years when we had run into some problems. That year our team attended both the Midwest and Wisconsin regionals and had manged to make it to the Semi-Finals at both. It was also the first year that our team worked on awards as it had previously only focused on building the robot. That year it was obvious how much our team had grown.
