Mu Alpha Theta is a nationally recognized math honor society co-sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Mathematical Association of America.
IMSA's Mu Alpha Theta chapter started many years ago to improve students' interest in math through fun events such as Lock-In, Junior High Math Competition, Jeopardy Competition, Clash of the Smart People, and more!
With succesful events behind us such as jeopardy and the lock in, we are looking forward to our next big event, Clash of the Smart People, a competition between students and teachers. Clash of the Smart People is a two day competition between teams of students and teachers. A prelimanary round is held February 6, 2008 from 7-9 PM in the Ac Pit. During the preliminary round, student teams will go through a written round followed by a scholastic-bowl type round to get the spot as the team to go against the teachers the following day during midday. Be sure to attend an exciting match between teachers and students to determine which one is the smartest!
After the Clash of the Smart People is over, we will turn our focus onto our biggest event of the year, the Junior High Math Contest (JHMC). Middle schools from all around Illinois bring seventh and eighth grade students to IMSA to compete against each other. Students can compete in individual events, team events, or the creative thinking event. Registration is now open, so please click on the link above to start the registration process.
